Sinn Fein MLA and former Labour minister Mike Nesbitt said: “The attack on the police station in North Limerick was deliberately planned and we are working closely with the police to ensure that justice is served.”
He said the attack, which happened at about 4pm on a Tuesday evening, was part of a campaign of violence by the IRA in Dublin and elsewhere.
A total of 19 people were arrested at the scene, and gardaí arrested five people who they suspected could have links with the terrorist organisation. They include a father of one arrested after a police raid in the west inner city city and a 17-year-old who was later charged with assisting in a terrorist attack.
Police are working to trace all those involved and are currently considering charges of murder, conspiracy and attempted murder.
At the scene of the attack, a police officer outside the police station on Dungannon Road was attacked by two men wearing balaclavas. On우리카지노e person then got into the police van which attempted to drive away.
The other person ran away from the scene with a police officer and, while the two men were in the van, they opened fire on a car nearby with a shotgun in front of a female officer.
A female officer was stabbed in the thigh. The driver, 23-year-old Paul Breen, who was taken to the hospital, died shortly after.

Sinn Fein will fully support the police investigation in relation to the murder of the officer involved, as well as any possible crimina바카라사이트l charges, particularly in relation to the attempted murder of another officer and any subsequent attacks against members of the public. We call on the public to ensure they fully report any suspicious activity to the gardai or gardai stations.
“The victim and the officers involved have been taken to local hospitals where it is believed that they have sustained serious gunshot injuries. The police will not be investigating the scene after officers have been treated.
“This is a sickening attack on a police station on a busy day, but I urge the public and community to please, in the context of these circumstances, seek support, be vigilant, and remain vigilant for a further attack. The public’s help is urgently required.”
